Directions for usage and set-up of AIRWALL® products.
At AirWall, we know you may have questions about how our products work, what makes them different, and how they can best support your projects. This page brings together answers to the most common questions we hear from restoration professionals, contractors, and facility managers.
It depends on what services you provide. For mold remediation the Construction Barrier Starter Kit would be for you. If you are working in a hospital or medical space then you should start with the "HAI Control Kit". We have many other kits on our shopping page. We recommend that if you are new to AIRWALL that you start there.
No. Tape is compatible with our product should the user need to integrate plastic into the containment for a hybrid set up, and poles can sometimes be used to assist in set up or to support a UDC as a stand alone unit. Generally speaking though, tape and poles are completely unnecessary.
No. This would be a situation when plastic only or a hybrid use of AIRWALLs and plastic could come into play.
Yes. AIRWALLs come in a number of sizes. The AIRWALL X fits doorways 28" to 36" wide and 80" tall. Our window Xhaust units come in three sizes that when used as a kit will fit nearly any window you encounter. The NEXUS on the other hand is build to fit in 96" high rooms but can also accommodate 9' and 10' ceilings with attachments.
Yes, AIRWALLs outperform plastic containment by 200-400% and yes, they do this without any physical attachment to the building. They rely on air pressure, compression and friction to maintain that high level of performance.
We do not currently have a line item in Xactimate but we will with time and increased adoption in the industry. This is, in fact, a unique time for the early adopters out there because they will have the rare opportunity to help dictate what the compensation will be for this type of containment. The people at Xactimate check with current users to determine what the per diem rate of return might be. By using the F9 function to explain your substitution you will compensated for containment as you normally would.
All NEXUS and the dust curtain are designed to be used in rooms with ceilings up to 10 feet high. A user only needs to attach 1 or 2 12 inch extensions depending on the need.
Absolutely yes! The high quality zippers, rings, hooks and snaps are designed to be compatible with each other now and many years from now. A user can connect multiple Xpresses, end to end, top to bottom or even bottom to bottom. The NEXUS is daisy chainable with the same zippers that allow a user to connect the edge seals or integrate a dust curtain for ingress and egress. So you can create 100 feet of barrier, a cube, a tube or any shape that suits the environment with or without one or more points of entry.
If it is a constant air flow product like X and Xpress then holes are basically irrelevant. In fact the constant air flow products have large holes designed into them so that they can be used like a manifold. If a repair is required in a Nexus or one another product that is meant to hold air or is not inflatable at all then the user simply cuts an appropriately sized, glueless, instant set patch and places it on the smooth side of the hole, cut or tear.
Damaged bladders are actually quite rare but very simple to repair/replace and can be done while the containment is in place so that there is no down time or breach of containment. The user cuts an appropriate size glueless, instant set patch and places it over the damaged area or replaces the bladder with a new or undamaged unit and installs the functional bladder per instructions.
We used the best materials we could find knowing full well that the crews that handle these tools will handle them roughly. The zippers are oversized, the fabric is even UV resistent and every one of our products that comes into contact with the floors of the built environment is equiped with a durable bonded vinyl foot for long life. The parts that come into contact with the walls and ceilings are replaceable if they happen to wear out and everything is machine washable. As a company focused on having a positive impact on the environment we deliberately did not build them with obsolescence in mind, quite the opposite, durability and reverse compatibility are inherent in all of our designs.
Many of our products use the air from your air movers and HEPA machines to stay inflated and fucntion as designed. In regards to the NEXUS however, the answer is a high volume air pump, or even a wed/dry vacuum will do the trick. The NEXUS is meant to stay inflated indeffinitely. The dust curtain and dedon chamber rely on the steady support of the NEXUS’ (or poles in certain applications) and an internal frame respectively, so they also operate independently of a constant air supply which means that they are immune to power failures and can perform reliably for as long as needed.
AIRWALLS are made from a polyester fabric with a polyurethane coating. This combination is easily vacuumed, wet wiped, machine washed and/or disinfected with common antimicrobial solutions.
Yes they come in duffle bags. A NEXUS duffel measures 24x14x24 and weighs 35lbs. A UDC with decon chamber (frame not included) measures 24x18x12 and weighs 28lbs. The decon chamber comes in a separate bag that measures 46x46 and weighs 16lbs. An AIRWALL X duffel measures 24x12x12 and weighs 13lbs. Check the shopping pages for the products you wish to purchase for more information.
A T Flap is the single layer of fabric that covers the zippered opening in either the Decon chamber or the UDC (if you’re not using the decon chamber). This helps to maintain proper negative air in an active mitigation space with debris, people and/or equipment passing through regularly. We had the option of magnet closures but T Flaps just work better AND they carry our brand and yours so that’s a good thing.
The AIRWALL/NEXUS is the inflatable structure that supports the UDC (Universal Dust Curtain). It is also the sound barrier, thermal barrier, and all-around sweet ride that makes negative air containment in the built environment possible. How do you decide which one to buy? If you want to set up a basic containment, then we recommend at least 2 NEXUS, 1 UDC, 1 Decon chamber, 1 T-Flap, and probably a set of extensions for each NEXUS. That is the basic set up. It is all modular, though, so when you decide to expand, you can always join these parts together. We have so much more information on the shopping page and in our extensive video library to please go check it out.
No zipper, you just move it aside and pass through it.
By AIRWALL, I think you mean the AIRWALL NEXUS and the answer is yes. They can bend up to 90 degrees, make sweeping or radical curves and since they are modular 5' sections they can be made to make a wide range of angles at the joint between two NEXUS. Of course if your asking about the Xpress then the answer there is also yes. Check out our videos for more information on both.
Yes. It fits any standard door 80” tall and anything from 28” walls to 36” ADA. If you need to fit a door with a height of 84” or 96” then you would fill in the top with plastic for now. We are focused on the majority of doors encountered at 80” but may introduce something in the furture that would elimiate the plastic filler at the top.
